About Ross Photography
More interested in the end result and the process than the actual kit. I use both film (analog?) and digital cameras to make my images. At present my focus is on Street and Landscape Photography, which you could argue are at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of style and approach. In particular I’m having a lot of fun with a Zero Image 612B Pinhole camera, to look at it you would think it was an antique, instead its a carefully crafted teak box with brass finishings made in Hong Kong as part of a limited run of 2000.
I’ve always had a camera, but only took up photography “seriously” when I did an evening class in photography at the Site Gallery in Sheffield back in 2002 (I think). Its also where I met my now wife. When the Site Gallery closed its public dark rooms, I made the switch to digital.
Since then I’ve come full circle, and whilst I still use my digital cameras, I’ve started using a pinhole camera and a newly acquired Bronica. There is something quite cathartic about using film I feel. It slows the process down. I feel that I try harder to get the shot right first time, instead of bracketing in the hope that there will be a keeper or something that I can create later via HDR. Also, when using black and white its great to be able to process your own films, there is a certain craftsman like feel to it all, in that you create and make a photograph instead of merely downloading it.
Please feel free to browse my galleries and send me any feed back that you may have.
